"The Beauty of Queen Leenane"

Add to plan Remove from plan

The Beauty Queen of Leenane is a 1996 black comedy that enjoyed successful runs in Ireland, London’s West End Broadway and Off Broadway. It was nominated in 1998 for an Olivier Award as Best Play for the London production and nominated for six Tony awards, winning four. Maureen Folan, has lived in a cottage with her hypochondriac mother, Mag, in the countryside of Leenane, Connemara Ireland for almost her whole life. The two share a dysfunctional relationship, due to Mag’s constant interfering into her daughter’s life, constantly going out of her way to prevent Maureen from leaving the house. When neighbor Ray Dooley’s invitation to a party reaches Maureen and she encounters her old flame Pato, things in the home take a disturbing turn for the worse. The Beauty Queen of Leenane’s subject matter is such that we recommend it to Mature Audiences Only.
